This is a fun little side project I did to improve my knowledge in Houdini. I created and textured the mushrooms in ZBrush and Maya, created the particle system with Houdini and finally rendered it with Karma.
Little Magic Trick.
For this little side project, I first rigged and then animated the hand in Maya. I then continued with the lighting and rendering of the hand with Vray. Meanwhile I created the swirly particle ball using Houdini. Finally, I composited everything together in After Effects.
Girl On Fire.
In this project, I experimented with various VFX techniques in Houdini. Thanks to Voxyde’s great tutorial on creating this character effect I was able to understand how to control particles with noises and volumes better. Besides the character effect I generated and simulated the cloak covering the girl using vellum.
In Case of Unhappiness.
In case of unhappiness, follow the lights and break the glass, take the cat and run. This animation was made on a cold rainy day in autumn. I created the models in Maya and Zbrush and textured them with Substance Painter before lighting and rendering the scene with Vray. The subtle rain was created using Maya too.
Glass Flower.
This is a little exploration of RBD simulation and vellum for generating flower blossoms (or similar geometry) in Houdini.
By and By.
“By and By” is a short movie I did in collaboration with two colleagues at university. I was responsible for modelling, lighting, rendering, VFX and compositing you see in it.
Right from the start of the project, it was clear that we wanted to take a step back from reality with a short film. Realistic assets are replaced by watercolour textures that contrast with the realistic proportions of the models. Thematically, “By and By” deals with one of the most present themes of our time: deceleration. Imagine people deciding to literally take a step back and only move around on foot, by bike or similar. Trains, cars, aeroplanes and ships come to a standstill. However, in the spirit of sustainability, the old vehicles are not simply scrapped, but recycled and remodelled into different living spaces. Far from a dystopia, our world represents an optimistic and peaceful vision of the future.
A Little Love.
“A Little Love” is a short movie about a little mouse, that dreams of one day finding her true love. The movie was made with Autodesk Maya and rendered with Arnold. All assets are created by me. The textures are made with Substance Painter and Adobe Photoshop. Additionally, I wanted tell a heart-warming story.
Showreel 2023.
Concrete Butterflies.
A tree in a concrete staircase, encircled by butterflies, writings on the walls. This is “Concrete Butterflies”, a magical reminder, that although humanity is confining and destroying nature more and more, it stands firm with beauty and elegance unmatched. All assets in this scene were created by me using Maya. It is rendered with Arnold and edited/composited with After Effects.
